Living in the Windy City is normally a blast, but when that really strong wind in fall and winter blows through, it can be so hard on your eyes. Sight is such a s precious sense and should be preserved at every opportunity. Your eyelashes helps to keep our dust and tears were created to wash the dirt away, but you still need to take extra care, especially in the Windy City.

Protect Your Eyes

Here are some things you can do to preserve your eyes and prevent long lasting damage to your most precious sense.

  • Wear sunglasses every time you go outside. Even when it’s not bright outside, ultraviolet rays can damage your eyes.
  • Carry eye drops with you. Whenever you feel dust in your eye, use the eye drops in order to prevent serious damage that can occur.
  • Avoid walking though heavy construction areas. It is a good idea not to intentionally expose your eyes to a hazardous environment.
  • Schedule regular visits with your eye doctor. Have your vision tested regularly so that small problems do not turn into larger problems in the future.

Most people are familiar with the fact that the sun’s harmful UV rays can damage eyes. But do you know exactly what can happen if you forget to wear your sunglasses or hat?

When UV rays, invisible, high-energy rays of light, are absorbed by your eyes, several eye ailments that lead to these diseases can result.

  1. Cataracts: A cataract is basically the clouding of the eye. This leads to a blurring or dimming of vision. UV rays are the largest cause of cataract formation.
  2. Pteryguim: This is when tissue growth occurs on the white part of the eye and can block vision capability.
  3. Skin Cancer: Of course everyone knows this can happen from too much sun exposure, but did you know you can get skin cancer on your eyelids? Not a good thing for your vision.

So don’t forget to wear sunglasses or a nice hat with a large brim to block harmful sun rays from your eyes the next time you are out in nature. .
